Local small businesses are hit with a marketing conundrum: it costs a lot of money to finance a traditional
marketing campaign, and you lose money if you don't market your business. Many small businesses decide to use the
traditional means of marketing their business, they get listed in the yellow pages, they pay to have their names
added to local business directories, and they lease ad space. Most of their marketing strategies only marginally
help their business grow, but they continue with the same strategy year after year. Ultimately, their businesses
never grow. This article will explain how marketing your small business on the Internet will grow your
business.
One of the things that traditional marketing strategies fail to achieve is 'Point of Need' relevancy, this means
that your company's name is never mentioned when people need your services. The majority of people use a Google
search to find service providers when they have a need for a plumber, dentist, pizza parlor or an other kind of
business. Traditional means of marketing have a limited window to reach customers, while modern Internet marketing
strategies reach consumers at their 'Point of Need'. A great example of this is when someone needs a plumber, they
are more likely to do a Google search for a plumber in their neighborhood than they are to remember a commercial or
random ad they saw several months back.
Google has replaced the yellow pages as the go to source to find businesses, and more people use google than any
other source to research businesses. What happens when your company isn't listed on the first two pages of Google?
The answer to this question is easy --- You miss out on customers! If you do not currently have a presence on the
first two pages of Google, then you are losing money. If you are a plumber in Atlanta, and you're not listed on the
front page when someone types in "Plumber in Atlanta", then you are missing out on thousands of potential
customers. Look at how much money you are giving away to your competitors by not being listing on the first 2 pages
of Google!
Not being listed in Google is the same as not existing! What good is having a website that no one knows or cares
about? Ranking high in Google's search result is the ultimate PR that you can do for your business. What does it
mean to rank high in Google's search results? It means that people looking for your kind of business will find you,
and not one of your competitors, it also means that you have a current website that pumps out tons of valuable
information on your industry, and it means that you are viewed as an authority for your industry.
Small local business will benefit from developing a web presence that allows potential customers to find them at
their 'Point of Need'. This kind of instant presence isn't available with expensive traditional means of marketing.
Internet marketing is both cheaper, and more effective than the old ways of marketing a business. Take advantage of
Internet marketing, and see your business grow.
